Jan's bachelor party: Evening (25 images in 7 chapters)

We met up in the evening to go out to a restaurant in Durlach, the Alte Schmiede. After enjoying local specialties and some good talks, we took the tram back to Karlsruhe and went to the Kap, where we spent the rest of the evening.

Jan's bachelor party: Day (161 images in 7 chapters)

Basti, Gunnar, Frank, Jan, Ruben and me started out at Karlsruhe at 11:00 in the morning, taking the local train to a small town along the Landau - Pirmasens route called Birkweiler. There, we visited a local winery, Weingut Kleinmann. After a wine tasting there, we started hiking up towards Trifels Castle, enjoying a brunch and a view over the Rhine valley (and some more wine) inbetween.

Friday: Travel, exploration and night out #1 (264 images in 19 chapters)

The trip started on Friday morning at the Karlsruhe train station - from where we took the TGV train to Paris. After we had checked in to the hotel, we went out for lunch in the "Rue Mouffetard", a colorful street ligned with restaurants, bars and cafes. In the afternoon, we walked towards the Seine , visited Centre Pompidou and the Louvre before heading out into the night in the 5th arrondissement of Paris.

Saturday: Sight seeing, night out #2 (129 images in 13 chapters)

We spent most of Saturday walking past some of the major site seeing locations in Paris, the Eiffel tower, the Champs Elysées with the triumphal arch, up through Montmartre to the Sacré Cœur, down back on the other side through the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

The day started with a cloudy drizzle but turned into bright sunshine right in time for the wedding in Karlsruhe's "Haus Solms". After the official part we were all invited to Tapas for dinner.

Having friends over for new year's eve 2009 - for dinner, lead pouring (a custom of telling fortunes by the shapes made by molten lead dropped into cold water). The drink you see on fire is a "Tiroler Bergfeuer" with 50% alc. vol.

Back in the boatshouse, we started with a champagne reception, went over to coffee and cake, and - with a clear blue sky and hot weather - were thankful to jump into the Rhine river to cool off before having dinner later.

After having dinner around the corner from our hotel, we went back to the Eiffel tower again, this time to stand in line and wait to get up on its top. Unfortunately, the topmost floor had closed by that time, but the night views from the second platform were great nonetheless.

On Friday morning we headed out to Baden Airpark, Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden's airport, starting out the trip with beer and pretzels before getting on the plane. Having arrived in Barcelona, we had to take an hour's bus ride to the downtown area. After we checked in to the hotel we started our tapas and beer tour through Barcelona's picturesque old town, ending it at about 4 in the morning.

The Madinat area is a resort designed in form of a mini city using traditional arabic architecture - most eye (and wind) catching: the wind towers). Adjacent to the Burj al Arab and the Jumeirah beach hotel, it's a nice area, open to public to stroll around, with small stores, food courts, snack bars, music and waterways.
